Created in January 2016, Toon In is a blog dedicated to the analysis of gender representation in children’s media, specifically focusing on animated television programs. The blog is maintained by Lindsay Miller, a senior Communications major at Arcadia University who has quite the affinity for gender portrayals in media. She created Toon In as a part of her thesis project, hoping to develop, practice, and refine skills relating to media analysis, blog writing, social media, and coding languages such as HTML, CSS, and PHP.
Each post on Toon In is dedicated to the analysis of gender in animated television programs, both past and present, and new entries are posted weekly. The blog operates under the assumption that media analysis is highly subjective, continuous, and conducive to a multitude of unique interpretations. As such, Toon In works to encourage active participation through comments, sharing, and reader-developed submissions.
